Caroline R. (DeLuca) Mahoney, affectionately known by many as Carole, was born on January 27, 1933, in Quincy, Massachusetts to Angelo and Margaret DeLuca. She grew up in Quincy, Massachusetts, and was a sixty-six-year resident of Braintree, Massachusetts, where she raised her family and resided until her passing on February 23, 2026, at the age of 93.
In 1956, Caroline graduated from Boston College with a Bachelor of Science degree, which was an important goal and a proud achievement for her. She worked for many years as an administrative assistant in the radiology department at Quincy City Hospital. After retirement, she found joy in a part-time position in the children's department at Barnes & Noble, as she had a great love for books and the written word.
A woman of strong faith, Caroline served as an Eucharistic minister for many years, at the St. Thomas More Parish in Braintree, Massachusetts. Her deep spiritual beliefs shaped not only her own life but also the lives of those around her, as she generously shared her faith and kindness with others. Throughout her life Caroline donated to many charities including sponsoring and corresponding with a child from Honduras for several years. She was quick-witted and strikingly intelligent with a keen interest in current events and enjoyed engaging in conversations on a variety of topics. She was always up for a hardy debate.
Caroline was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and enjoyed many games at Fenway Park with her children and grandchildren. It was fitting that the eighth inning song was “Sweet Caroline.”
At the core of her foundation was her love for family and friends. Caroline cherished her role as a beloved mother, grandmother and matriarch of her family. Her many heartfelt letters and thoughtful notes showcased her deep love for them. She took great pleasure in spending time and creating cherished memories with her children and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed her annual fall trips to Vermont, which she called her happy place. One of the greatest joys of her life at age 92 was meeting her great granddaughter.
Caroline is survived by her son, John Mahoney; daughter, Annemarie McGrath and her husband, John; daughter-in-law, Erin Mahoney; brother, Anthony DeLuca and his wife, Marjorie; grandchildren, Michael McGrath, Julianne Evans, Christopher Mahoney, Elizabeth Mahoney, and Andrew Mahoney; and great-granddaughter, Noelle Rose Evans as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Francis J. Mahoney, her cherished son, Francis C. Mahoney; her sister, Mary J. Mastrantonio and her husband, James V. Mastrantonio; and lifelong friend, Camille Ameen.
Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 7 PM on Monday, March 2, at Peck Funeral Home, located at 516 Washington St., Braintree, MA. A funeral mass of Christian burial will take place at 10 AM on Tuesday, March 3 at St. John the Baptist Parish, located at 44 School St., Quincy, MA.
